2024 Goals
Recently, over a heated game of Monopoly during the holidays, I tried to make small talk to deviate emotions away from my complete takeover of the board from my fellow competitors, by asking “What are your New Year’s Resolutions?” I was a little caught off guard, when everyone at the table rejected the cultural norm of New Year’s goals and I was left thinking, “Am I truly this weird?”
I’m a huge goal person and am constantly working towards goals every single day. In fact, through all of 2022 and 2023 I “sat with” my goals, whether they were financial, business, fitness or personal. At the end of each month and at the start of each week, I would just “sit” in them. The same kind of way I figure a mathematician would just sit and look with mild curiosity about the big picture of the math problem covering the chalkboard.
These goals are small but continue to move the needle towards greater goals. In the past I have built pyramids for my goal sheets, which is a similar concept to pillars. For the pyramids, I use the multitude of first blocks to make goals that will create habits that will complete the rest of the blocks in the pyramid, ultimately checking off that final block on top. I will continue to do these in various aspects of my life from specific business goals (i.e. my podcast) or fitness (completing a half Ironman). But for something a bit different, I decided to do a BINGO chart for 2024.
Yes, I was influenced by TikTok, but no my BINGO chart isn’t as humorous or funny as those online are. I’m a tad bit too serious for those kind of things these days.
My formula for completion was three categories (business, personal, & homestead) with three “easy,” two to three “medium hard,” and one to two “hard” goals. I then added three random additional goals to the list to make an entire list of 24 goals of varying degrees of difficulty. I then numbered the entire list and used a random number generator on Google to assign them to each square in the BINGO card.
Some of these are super easy and just a matter of time. “Visit a new state” will be checked off in April when I go to a dear friend’s wedding in Georgia. “Butcher 2 cows” is already scheduled in February as long as everything goes to plan - which we know it never does. There are items, however, that are going to be extremely hard both in resources and financially such as “roof the hay barn” and “build new barn” (I accidentally put “roof the hay barn on their twice). Thus the goal of “Make $200K in revenue” is on there. This is an EXTREMELY lofty goal that will require running FIVE FOLD the number of meat chickens, sell WAY more than five calves, and potentially sell a horse in order to make those ends meet.
As a single female in the world, I have become even more aware just how much more I am going to have to work. Do I like being single? No. But am I protective of what I have gained in my single-independent era? Yes. This is going to sound super crazy, but the mini goal on my BINGO chart that SCARES me the most is the “Adventure Date.” I was challenged in 2023 to go on 20 dates within the year. Going on just one was so hard and painful of an experience that it took me nine months to go on 13 dates after I emotionally “gave up.”
On a whole, this entire BINGO card is going to challenge my 2024 and in order to keep it at the front of my mind, it’s now the screensaver for my secondary work screen in my home office. This means, I’ll be looking at it, for sure, every week!
Outside of this BINGO card, I’ve got a few more consistent goals I’d like to achieve each month.
My 2024 Goals per Month
One cultural activity a month to increase my self-awareness and education.
Continue to read 20 minutes a day, five days a week. Now including one page reflections on each book in my reading A6 journal binder.
Continue to journal every day in self reflection, recounting current events of the world/nation, and not just my own as we move towards another Presidential election.
Do my best to stay ahead of all bills and budget accordingly at least one quarter in advance.
Continue to work out 4-6 days a week for 60 minutes a workout and track calories to ensure maintaining healthy caloric and nutrient standings.
Post on LinkedIn 5 times a week between varying pages & profiles.
